Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

We came in on May 21st around 7pm. There were quite a few people waiting so we knew it would be a long wait. The hostess, Jodi, was being rude to people with large groups. A lady with a group of 10 asked how much longer it would be that they had been waiting 20 minutes. In a rude voice she told her she didn't have anything open and it would be about another 30-35 minutes. So the lady said screw it and the group left. Jodi began talking rudely about that guest to the other host. There was another group that was there and the guy said he had been waiting almost half an hour. He got up and said let's just go to burger king. Jodi started talking rude about them too. She was acting like it is so difficult and inconvenient to accommodate large groups. Maybe Jodi shouldn't be out front where guests can hear her complain about the other guests! After all, the hosts & hostesses are the first people guests see and they should really make a good impression otherwise you'll get people that just up and leave... Like they did tonight! The host who sat us, Cole, was very friendly! Our waitress, Ashley, was sweet. We could tell she was new. We did have to snag her a few times to get drink refills. The chips & salsa plate is pretty small. They also forgot some food on my husbands order. Overall, the food was pretty good.

I was staying in St. George on a Sunday evening, and this was one of the only restaurants open near my hotel. I did a carry-out service that was done before the recommend time. I had waited at the restaurant, so that was convenient. Food was fine for a Applebee's location.

So, I've had decent food at applebees in the past. It was late yesterday after I went to visit family, so we went here. It was one of the few places open. I whole heartedly regret that decision. I will never go here again. The only saving grace they have is that their servers were very nice. THe manager was combative however. The main fall out was the food. I got a pizza for my son (expecting a personal pizza or something) and myself and my husband got the same thing, the All Amercian hamburger. It was horrid. I wish I had never even tried it. The onions tasted like they had been grilled in sugar and were SOGGY. It was nasty. When I cut it open to eat, I noticed that it was pink inside. I asked them to change it. All they did was take my hamburger grill it a bit more then give it back. That is NOT what a restaurant is supposed to do! I decided when I got it back that I wouldn't eat a thing more there. Everything food wise was just gross. The chips were hard, not in a good way, and oily. Like they were stale chips fried then given out. My son's pizza was a BRICK HARD stick of bread with tomato sauce, SUGAR, and cheese on it. I could taste the sugar. He didn't touch it. The mozzarella sticks were way over seasoned. No one could eat them. The fries were okay, though. I suppose. When I got to our hotel, I had to sit by the toilet for HOURS as I gagged and threw up over and over again. Yes, a horrible place to go eat. I will NEVER go here again! If you want to save your taste buds and not be sick, don't go here.

Food is ok. Service is so-so. I really like their boneless wings (an appetizer dish) and would go for those alone. Its basically everything youd expect an applebees to be.
(3)Maria G.
Well I'm not sure what the circumstances were for the other reviewers AND I am so glad we disregarded them. Out-of-towners from Southern California our group of four were pleasantly surprised when... We were seated w/in 5mins Our drink order was placed & received w/in 5mins And our meal order took less than 15 - 20 mins. We perused the menu longer than normal because of all the different healthier choices of which we ladies chose the Shrimp Scampi Linguine and I believe 'Nom, nom, nom' was the reaction. LOL The boys had grilled chicken w/portabello mushrooms and club sandwich and both plates were clean. The staff were kind and courteous and we left fat & happy. Oh, the drinks were good too!

I work near Applebee's. I enjoy taking clients to Applebee's for lunch. Great service and they take good care of you. Food is consistently good.
(5)Brandon P.
The crosscut ribs are battered and fried. Who does that? Gross. Steaks were over cooked. Disappointing experience. Manager did nothing for us.
(1)Chris B.
Tried the "carside take away" for the first time today. It went well. The order was accurate and on time. The food was just okay. I like their classic hot wings. One of them was stone cold this time. I'll blame the delay on transport home on this one. Usually, in the restaurant, the are perfect.
(3)Ricky W.
Food was OK not as great as I was anticipating but it was decent. I wouldn't suggest this place for anything important like a date.
(2)Emily F.
I've never been terribly disappointed by this Applebee's, but my breath has never been taken away. I've never had a complaint with my food. I will usually get a steak and mashed potatoes. If I was a drinker I would be crazy about the drink menu, everything looks so yummy. I am not a huge fan of the long waits that are inevitable if you go on a weekend.
(3)Stephanie N.
The service here is okay and the food is the same old same old, same as chilis or any other place. This Applebee's, tends to have below average service everytime I come.
(2)Joshua G.
My wife and so are huge Applebee's fans for the 2 for 20 deal. However we are not huge fans for their service. That is until today! We drove down from Oregon On vacation and was very greatful for the excellent service and wonderful experience we had here! Very impressed. I wish I lived in St. George to be able to come here often!
(5)Carl L.
First visit here and they missed an opportunity. My mom picked this place for her dinner birthday. Although I informed them of this event on arrival, nothing more was said or done about it. If the days of a 'comped' cupcake on your birthday are gone, also gone are the days of truth in menu descriptions. Their new jambalaya dish "N'awlins Grill" features blackened chicken and Andouille sausage. The chicken was diced so small it could not have been blackened and the sausage was a polish. I pointed this out to the manager when he came walking around but he seemed un-phased. "But it's all good, right?" Otherwise the food was fine and service was average. Bottom line I probably won't go back and I try and talk mom into someplace better next year.
(2)Garrett K.
Went there while on vacation. Also had a gift card to use. The service was good but the majority of the food was average tasting. My quesadilla burger was a bright spot in a rather dull dinner.
(3)Maggie P.
it's a chain. You honestly can't expect anything from that right there... Their margaritas are pretty good tho.
(3)Robert C.
Good people, cold beer, TERRIBLE food. French Onion Soup was cold with barely melted cheese on top. Steak arrived raw with "grilled" onions barely cooked. Veggies - boiled to a mush. I sent everything back, paid for the beer and left; just awful. No wonder this chain is struggling to survive. This place needs a checkup from the neck up. DON'T GO.
(1)Sharon G.
We got the $20 deal where you get two entrees and an appetizer. You choose from a select set of appetizers and entrees. Overall, this was a pretty sweet deal where you get a free appetizer.
(3)Scott M.
Ate here on the way back from Colorado and had the worst food from applebees ever. The food at the St. George location is not very fresh. We ordered a salad as an app and not one thing in the salad tasted very good. The service was good but the quality of the food was horrible. Will not eat here again.
(2)Steve H.
Called in two dinners to go at 6:15pm I was told they would be ready in 15 minutes. So I ran by PetSmart (the dogs got to eat too) and showed up exactly 15 minutes from calling in. Nothing ready! They first brought out the two frozen lemonades. They were set on a ledge next to the door, which was opened regularly allowing 94 degree wind to blow against the cups. Was I going to get back to the hotel with frozen or hot lemonade? Then came out the dessert (Maple Butter Walnut Blondie) with ice cream and placed next to the warming drinks. Still no entrees! I was then informed the entrees were "dropped" off the order. Hey, someone, go find a cow! 15 minutes later the entrées are ready. The ordeal is over, right? Not yet! I get back to the hotel and won't you know it, the order was incomplete. My steak and shrimp only had steak. They topped it with cold diced tomatoes, but forgot to put the shrimp on top of the tomatoes. As far as the food goes, IT's A TWELVE DOLLAR STEAK, WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? As I said, the Blondie was good. My wife's Cabernet Mushroom Steak was decent (for a $12.00 steak). The dogs enjoyed the scraps! Probably will not go back the next time we pass through St. George.
